This tune is about something I find funny; the existence of the "missed connections" section of craigslist. The people post some pretty out there descriptions in their ads, and sometimes I wonder - given their scenario - how they can expect that someone would ever look for their ad.
The sheer improbability of it, and the fact that something like that exists struck me as a funny idea. The phrase itself seemed very musical, which made me imagine it harmonized over a shuffle.
The song became musically influenced by Jeff Lynne/ELO, Roy Orbison, Paul McCartney, Georgia Satellites, Mutt Lange, and maybe even distant memories of Dwight Yoakam.
lyrics
it was a girl in a pink dress
standing in a grocery line
looked my way
asked me if I had the time
didn't get her name
guess I gotta go online
missed connection
missed connection
happens all the time
missed connection
you were at the bar
watching football on tv
you had short hair
drinking long island ice tea
if that sounds like you
please write back to me
missed connection
missed connection
happens all the time
missed connection
I know there's gotta be some better way
but now I'm checking craigslist and I'm looking least fifty times a day
missed connection
missed connection
happens all the time
missed connection
